Is Gowan's available in our area?

Most areas of California can get our cider!

Where do you source your apples from?

We have the luxury of growing our very own heirloom apples, on our historic 146 year organic certified orchards, in Philo, California. So our applewine cider gets the very best tree-ripened award-winning heirloom apples.

Are the apples grown organically?

I like to support local farmers. Is Gowan's cider farm-to-table?

It doesn't get more Farm-to-Table than this! Not only are the apples grown here, but they're pressed here, fermented here, and finally bottled and kegged right here on the farm too!

What's a 'single farm cider?

That's us! It's a cider that comes from one (single) farm. So you get to explore the authentic flavor and unique experience of this area, our beloved 6 generation family farm.

What does 'Real California Cider' mean on the label?

It means we're certified that 100% of our apples are grown in our own state of California. In our case, they're grown on our own farm too!

Is an 'estate cider' similar to an estate wine?

Yes! the rules are the same. The cider must be bottled (and kegged!) right where the apples are grown. It's an old fashioned way of doing things, but we think keeping everything happening here preserves the special quality of our fruit, the freshness, and makes it more sustainable. Estate ciders are more rare than estate wines!

Is Applewine cider different than regular cider?

Applewine is a fine cider, akin to a fine wine that reflects the orchard terroir and actual trees where the fruit ripens.. Whereas cider is a very broad term that includes mass non-alcoholic juice, mass marketed value-driven, hard soda flavored and/or made from overseas concentrates.
